A Web application is an application delivered to users from a Web server through a network such as the Internet or Intranet, and can therefore be accessed with the HTTP protocol via a web browser.

Web applications have become increasingly popular thanks to the simplicity and ubiquity of the Web browser, sometimes called "light client", but also the ability to update and maintain Web applications without distributing or installing the software on potentially thousands of client computers.

What defines a Web application is not the technology on which it is based, but its use and purpose. The choice of a technology must be done after evaluation of the whole project ..
