Content Management (CMS)

The content management systems (CMS) are platforms allowing dynamic update of website content by using simple and automated tools .The interest of a CMS is to allow any member of an organization or a community to put online Information without technical knowledge and from any Computer.
These systems share the following features:

• They make it possible for several individuals to work on the same document
• They provide a workflow making it possible for example to put on line the contents of the documents
• They allow to separate the operations concerning the management of the form and content
• They can structure the content (use of FAQs, documents, etc ...)

The content is most often stored in a database, structured in tables and fields. It is the content of the fields of the database that is created / modified by the editor, not the page itself. We talk about a "dynamic" website.
The presentation is defined in a template. The template defines two things: the layout itself, and the structuring of data, using standards such as XML, and the information extracted from the database.
